I hear this so often and I have to say, it’s the worst thing you could ever say to your customers. I know you’re either excited about how successful your garage sale has been so far or you’re embarrassed that there isn’t much left, but stop telling people as they arrive at your sale, “You should have been here yesterday! We’ve been pretty picked over already”, or any version of. It will make them think one of two things, and neither is good for you.
#1. All the good stuff is gone already and we might as well leave now and not waste any time.
#2. It’s low ball time because you are so happy with yesterdays success and are already looking at the rest, as donation items.
Either way, you are not doing yourself a favour. So save the, what sounds like bragging comments, for your friends or Facebook whatever, just don’t tell your customers. They want to know that there’s a chance to find some treasures and it’ll be worth their time to search through.
What’s the worst thing you’ve heard at a garage sale? and be honest, I’d love to hear some good ones.
